About the A. Batschari Series 5 Tobacco Cards
1930's, and probably very early 1930's, 5th Series set of 127 cards issued by A. Batschari tobacco company out of Germany. Filmbilder (Film or Movie Photos) set issued with Mercedes brand tobacco.
There are two sizes to this set with 15 large cards measuring 2-3/8" X 3-7/16" and the bulk of the set smaller at 2" X 2-3/4". The large cards are noted in both the gallery and checklist.

While the Garbaty sets are almost universally regarded as the most beautiful of German tobacco card sets, this A. Batschari Series 5 set of cards may now be my favorite set of cards based upon composition of the set. 127 cards which picture mostly movie stars who work at the American studios.
Sorting through these it seems like it'd best be called the Garbo-Novarro set as there are 36 different cards of Greta Garbo included among the first 38 numbered cards in the set and a total of 22 cards picturing Ramon Novarro. They are pictured together on 2 of the cards.
Many stars are pictured multiple times in the set, usually two or three times, some more. An interesting inclusion in the set is the rare cardboard appearance of Petey, the dog from Our Gang, who is pictured on 3 cards total in this A. Batschari set: One of his own, shown smoking a pipe; One with Our Gang members titled "Jung Hollywood," with Petey in the middle amongst the children; and once on Thelma Todd's card where he appears to have a bandage wrapped around his head, perhaps signifying a headache. Those are cards 122-124 of the 127 card set.
