Do you like Lon Chaney? Well Dave York has put together a veritable museum of rare Chaney Sr. movie cards. I have a special soft spot for Dave’s collection because it’s mostly comprised of the same type of items that are shown on this site. I’m proud to assume that I must have sold him a few of these, though I’ll be quite honest, many of these rarities I’ve never even seen before.
When scrolling through Dave’s 7 pages of Chaney cards be sure to hover over each for a larger look. And don’t miss the “Colleagues and Kin” section which includes a lot of Karloff, a little Lugosi, and probably my favorite of the bunch, a Historia Del Cine card featuring Lon Chaney, Jr. as the Wolf Man.
Looking forward to seeing Dave grow his Lon Chaney Card Collection even more as time passes on. Thanking him once more for sharing it with me … and you.
Following are a few of the Lon Chaney movie card and ephemeral images from my own archives. Click on any for more information about each particular issue in general.
Above: Circa 1929 Game Card from the Movie-Land Keeno game set.
Above: Cards from this Jaime Boix set emphasized design over the actual stars. If you squint you may make out Lon Chaney at the top of the Domino. Also pictured are Nita Naldi (top right under Chaney) and Lila Lee (bottom right corner).
Chaney was one of the In Memoriam premiums in the huge set of R95’s issued beginning 1936. 8″ X 10″ black and white premium issued on a linen like paper stock.
