Picto-Sked returns for its final installment of TCM’s Summer Under the Stars, 2016. Back to our usual programming after this one, but I just couldn’t skip Karloff!

Twenty-four hours of Boris Karloff movies begin on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Friday morning at 6:00 ET. There are seventeen Karloff movies playing during the 2016 Summer Under the Stars celebration, and fifteen of those were released between 1931-1947.

It’s nice to see that TCM gained rights to play several of Karloff’s key Universal titles. In fact, they dominate prime Karloff hours between 8:00 PM and 1:45 AM when TCM plays the killer quartet of Frankenstein (1931), Bride of Frankenstein (1935), The Mummy (1932), and The Black Cat (1934).

Note: Today’s Boris Karloff TCM Summer Under the Stars TCM mini-site is here.

Today’s TCM US schedule follows and under that you’ll find one vintage newspaper advertisement for each of the seventeen (17!) movies on today’s schedule. Also included are a few old movie card images to add splashes of color and clarity to the otherwise black and white page. Enjoy!

And with that, it’s mothballs for Picto-Sked, probably until Summer Under the Stars, 2017.

All past Picto-Skeds are accessible through this LINK. The television schedules that they represent may be over and done with, but the old newspaper ads continue to illustrate their main purpose: a look at how films were presented to the average moviegoer in their own time (Tough to top The Fatal Hour’s “Frankenstein Was a Sissy!” I’ll be tuning in to that one!).

I hope you’ve enjoyed these and look forward to their return. Next post up should be a review of some sort, whether it be that Fay Wray book review that I still plan, or a movie review after I catch something I can’t resist sitting down to write about. Till then, thanks for making it to the bottom of the post!
