I’ve been looking forward to getting back to this series so I hope you haven’t forgotten about it!

This is Part 4 of a series showing what the silent stars featured in the 1917 Kromo Gravure Trading Card set were up to at the precise moment in time covered in a 1932 Motion Picture Magazine article, Stars Who Have Vanished by Jack Grant.

You can find the previous entries here:

  • Part 1: Arbuckle-Dana
  • Part 2: Davis-Hansen
  • Part 3: Hart-Lytell

And they’re linked again below.

I’ve been using the IMDb, Wikipedia, and especially the NewspaperArchive.com database to search out the rest of the story for each of these old time stars in attempts to see what became of them from 1932 until their deaths.

I also went to three books off of my shelf for some info on a handful of the stars in this entry. I highly recommend each as quick and entertaining reads each covering a number of the more forgotten stars of the Silent Screen in brief well-researched biographical entries. The three:

  • Ankerich, Michael G. Dangerous Curves atop Hollywood Heels. Duncan, OK: BearManor Media. 2011.
  • (This one will be the subject of my next video review as soon as I finish it up!)

  • Golden, Eve. Golden Images. Jefferson, NC: McFarland & Company, Inc. 2001.
  • Slide, Anthony. Silent Players. Lexington, KY: The University Press of Kentucky. 2002.
  • The format of these is as follows: Name is linked to star’s IMDb page in case you want some more info about their careers. Text immediately following the name is from the original 1932 Motion Picture Magazine article. Any text following that inside parenthesis is mine. A 1917 Kromo Gravure card picturing the star follows each bit of text.

    Part 4: MacDonald-Rambeau:

Mary Miles Minter – Famous blonde star has retired since the unsolved murder of director William Desmond Taylor, her sponsor. Never married, and weighs considerably more now than in the old days. (Died in 1984, age 82. See a complete Mary Miles Minter biography by Tammy Stone elsewhere on this site.)

Harry T. Morey – Living in New York. Not very active professionally. (Died of a lung ailment in Brooklyn, 1936, age 62.)

Note: I’ve begun working to divide each of these entries into their own page. Here are those I’ve covered so far:

    • Marjorie Rambeau – Silent Stars: Where Are They Now … 1932 Edition
    • Arline Pretty – Silent Stars: Where Are They Now … 1932 Edition
    • Eileen Percy – Silent Stars: Where Are They Now … 1932 Edition
    • Virginia Pearson – Silent Stars: Where Are They Now … 1932 Edition
    • Ann Pennington – Silent Stars: Where Are They Now … 1932 Edition
