My original eBay ID things-and-other-stuff gathers feedback rating #5000

Just tooting my own horn here, it’s been a long wait to see the color of my star change, but it finally went green this past week.

The things-and-other-stuff eBay ID was created on April 10, 2000 not so ironically just a few days after I began the desk job that I was to hold for four years, and during my first week ever sitting at a computer.

eBay was a seed once again planted by my uncle, the baseball card dealer from way back who’s prominently mentioned on the About Us page of the site. It was around Christmas time ’98 when I was over his house sipping beers and being showed the wonders of eBay. I’ll never forget him saying, I just list it, they buy it, throw it in a package and off it goes. He showed me some of the prices he was getting and I was hooked. I had to get involved!

There are two negatives on my record, few enough to display my feedbacks at 100% positive still, but they still gnaw at me. My first was admitted to be a mistake by a buyer who had bought an ’86 Fleer Basketball common for $5-$6 bucks. When I asked him what happened, he apologized, said he had bought two and must have negged the wrong dealer. That was early, there wasn’t any feedback removal process even through Squaretrade back then.

The second one bothered me because it was on a book about cigars that I had picked up used and the neg related to the item reeking of smoke. A lot of dots didn’t connect for me on that one.

Not a bad record though on an ID that’s now more than 6-1/2 years old. I guess it will probably be another 4-5 years before I hit 10,000 feedback, which is where I assume the next bump occurs, but who knows, I’m over there enough where it may come sooner.

Thanks to all of the customers over the years who have helped me rack up the respectible stats, I really do appreciate it!

Cliff
