Cablevision subscribers turn the channel to 97 … we’ve finally got TCM

At least that’s the case here on Long Island. And I didn’t notice it being announced anywhere, so hopefully it sticks and isn’t some sort of trial or something.

I was flipping through the channels Saturday and as I always do when I notice The Manchurian Candidate is on, I hit the “info” button on my remote expecting to see Denzel Washington billed as the lead for the 452nd time this month, but instead it was Sinatra. Then I noticed I was on some unheard of channel 97, and then I saw the little TCM logo in the left corner.

I’ve wanted this channel for years and the reason I’d heard we Long Island Cablevision subscribers didn’t get it always annoyed me. I don’t know if it’s conspiracy theory, plain bs, or fact, but supposedly because Dolan owned AMC, a once mighty channel itself since turned to crap, he had always done his best to keep TCM off his airwaves. Its sudden appearance now leads me to believe it had more to do with the cost of adding the station, but whatever, it’s here!

And now I can start saving some of that money I’ve been blowing on classic DVD’s for the past several years. Enjoy!
