Just pointing you over to the next big auction that I’m going to be bidding in. I’ve been a customer of Hake’s Americana since back in the 90’s and have mentioned them on the site before when talking about some rare finds that have come through my own doors.
Hake’s Auction #203 is closing in just a few days, on June 21 and 23, and there’s plenty of cool vintage movie collectibles available amongst the more general nostalgia. Hake’s offers the kind of stuff I like here, vintage trading and gum cards and oddball premiums. Plus they always have pinbacks (a Hake’s specialty), signed items and vintage movie posters and lobby cards and #203 is no exception. They’ve even got some triple authenticated personal memorabilia of the stars up for bid this time around including cigarette cases owned by icons such as Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart and Errol Flynn! With minimum bids of just a few hundred dollars I’ll be watching those with hopes of stealing one!
I haven’t won anything on Hake’s in awhile now, but I’m really happy that my past wins have kept me on their mailing list–I was actually pretty astounded to receive a free copy of their latest auction catalog, an absolute monster, a few weeks back via FedEx. With just over 3,200 lots covering 440 slick illustrated color pages it kept me busy for hours! As I mentioned on Antique Trader back in the lead-up to Hake’s Auction #200 last year, “I still read them cover to cover and am always fascinated by what I find.” Check out the size of this thing:
I’m ashamed to admit that I mark them all up and dog-ear the pages as Hake’s catalogs have become collectibles in their own right. Maybe I’ll do some digging around in anticipation of covering their next auction and try to find some of the old catalogs from the 1990’s. Tiny by comparison, but pretty impressive for the time!
