About the M23 Philadelphia Record Supplement Photos
I’ve handled several of these supplements over the past several years, and while the checklist below is probably not yet complete it is filling in nicely.
It appears as though series of supplements were issued in 1933, 1936, 1937, and 1938, with a slightly larger Franklin Delano Roosevelt premium issued in 1941.
The 1936-1938 supplements all include the full date at the bottom, while the 1933 series only includes the month and day — judging by the calendar and the stars included though, 1933 is the only year which makes sense for those particular supplements.
Believed to be designated M23 in The American Card Catalog (ACC).
From the 1960 edition of Burdick’s American Card Catalog, listed under Periodical Issues (the “M” classification): M23–Movie Stars, 7-1/2 X 9-1/2, Philadelphia Record, 1937.
Issued with the Philadelphia Record on Sundays.
Black & white printed photos on paper. Aquatone Process noted in small letters at bottom right of each (except 1941 F.D.R.). Blank backs.
Each measures approximately 7-1/2″ x 9-1/2″ with two exceptions noted in checklist below.
