1933 Thomas De La Rue MGM Film Stars I Playing Cards

About Thomas De La Rue Film Stars I Playing Cards

Laurel and HardyA deck of 53 playing cards featuring MGM film stars on each of the face cards. 13 film stars featured on 12 cards. (The Laurel and Hardy card at the right explains the extra film star.)

This page is for the Film Star I series. There’s also a Film Stars II which features Paramount Stars.

I’ve bumped into the Paramount deck a few times at prices too high for me to pay considering I only had interest in the 12 film star cards. That Paramount deck is not yet included on the site.

There are at least two different colored backs to the MGM Film Star Playing Cards: A red back and a black back. I know because I picked up both at the same time. Examples of each are shown in the gallery just a little further down this page.

There is a Joker in the deck but it is not shown on this page as it was not included with either of the Thomas De La Rue decks that I purchased. The Joker features animated character Flip the Frog and is shown at the bottom right of this Deck of the Month page at the DXPO Playing Cards site.

Each measures approximately 2-1/4″ x 2-1/2″.

Thomas De La Rue Playing Cards come from England. De La Rue himself was born in 1793 and produced his first deck of playing cards in 1832. A brief history of Thomas De La Rue Playing Card is found on the World of Playing Cards website.
