Author John Kobal had just spread out a group of production stills from The Thief of Bagdad (1940), one of his favorites. Duprez replied with joyous wonder:
But you know what's amazing? You know when you're young and someone aged forty looks awfully old to you? I never realized how young [Alexander] Korda was ... Ohhh, but I love all these pictures to do with the production. I've never seen any of them. And here I am climbing up a ladder to get on top of the pink elephant! Ohhh, good Lord! Mary Morris! Doesn't she look marvelous here? Beautiful. Oh and, heavens, Rex Ingram. And there's me bicycling on the set. That's my bicycle, the one I rode to and from location on every day, with the lights out. But it didn't look that beautiful on the screen, did it? The sets? There's something about these black-and-white pictures that is beautiful. Well, and Georges Perinal's camera work.
