More than meets the eye would best describe what you get with this deck of playing cards. Each complete deck contains 52 standard playing cards plus Joker. But there are several different versions of this card deck issued beginning 1916 and probably continuing to circa 1920.
Over the past decade of handling these cards I've now seen a total of 98 different silent film stars featured in 113 different poses. Some stars appear on the same card in a number of poses--Ruth Roland is shown in 4 different poses on the Ace of Hearts for instance. Others are always the same--Charlie Chaplin as the Joker being one.
Issued out of Cincinnati in the USA. Each standard playing card measures 2-1/2" X 3-1/2 inches. Same chariot scene on reverse of each card. High grade examples maintain a gold gilt finish on the edges.
