Immortal Ephemera's Classic Movie Monthly #1, a monthly eBook, is now available at Amazon.com for $1.79.
Issue #1 features an all-new extended article about Child of Manhattan (1933) starring Nancy Carroll. Also included are reprints of articles from the site about Death on the Diamond (1934) and The Strawberry Blonde (1941).
For more information about this new project I've reprinted the introductory essay from the premiere issue just below the following image of the cover:
Welcome to the premiere edition of Immortal Ephemera, the eBook, a monthly celebration of classic movies. If you’re already familiar with my Immortal Ephemera blog, you’ll have an idea of what I plan to deliver in each eBook number. And if not—
I love old movies. Many are called classic, but that word that can raise some eyebrows depending upon quality, so I prefer old. Despite the presence of The Strawberry Blonde (1941) in this inaugural issue, we’re going to hang around in the 1930s most of the time. I’m unlikely to cover anything released after the end of World War II, but I won’t say that will never happen. I’ll probably cover a silent film every so often, as the mood strikes, just like I do over at the blog. But expect most titles to come from the 1930s and don’t be surprised when one or two of them are considered somewhat obscure (see Death on the Diamond this issue).
Of the three articles in each issue there will be one that is new material, entirely exclusive to this publication. The other two articles will have previously appeared on my blog: one typically a more recent entry, the other from deeper back in my archives. Immortal Ephemera has been online in one form or another since 2002, so those archives run deep. The site actually began as a group of collectibles galleries, and you’ll find a few of those old cards and collectibles illustrating these eBooks. In keeping with the collectibles theme, I also plan to highlight and checklist one vintage movie card or collectible issue at the back of every edition of the Immortal Ephemera eBook.
In addition to articles about The Strawberry Blonde and Death on the Diamond this first issue of the Immortal Ephemera eBook features a new and exclusive piece about Child of Manhattan (1933). I posted a brief write-up of this title at the site a few years ago, but I’ve since expanded it into the 4,000-word article found only inside these pages. While there’s no overall theme planned for any individual issue of Immortal Ephemera’s Classic Movie Monthly, I did select Death on the Diamond for this issue to coincide with the stretch run of the baseball season. You can expect next issue to include articles about three classic (er, old) horror movies.
I called this a monthly up top and that’s always easy to say in issue #1, but I can promise that content for the next two issues is already selected, written, and only in need of a final edit. Look for each new issue by the 20th of every month. Here’s hoping that you’re looking forward to the next one as much as I am!
This is my latest attempt to try and help support the site by offering something of value. This has become necessary in recent years as the collectibles market at eBay is not nearly what it used to be. The thought behind launching a monthly is to provide something creative at a small token cost that has the potential to multiply itself over time as the number of issues grow: basically, I feel I'll be rewarded if I can keep this up and talk to you from Issue #15 or #25, etc.
I hope you'll join me from Issue #1 to watch how this project evolves. And here's hoping I make it to Issue #25—and well beyond!
Thank you, so much!
Look for Issue #2 by October 20 ... just in time for Halloween.
